MANHEIM, Pa. – The Huntingdon wrestling team and junior DeAndre Beck were recognized by the National Wrestling Coaches Association for achievements in the classroom on Monday.

The Hawks concluded their season with a 3.24 team GPA, ranking them 13th out of 30 Division III schools that competed in their respective NCAA regional tournaments. The team GPA was calculated by averaging the GPAs of the ten regional starters plus as many as four other team members who competed in at least 50 percent of the team's scheduled competitions.

This marks the first time Huntingdon has been recognized by the NWCA.

Individually, Beck was named a NWCA Scholar All-American, a first for the Huntingdon wrestling program. The psychology major wrestled in the 141-pound weight class this season and finished with an 18-9 record.

Beck, a native of Millbrook, Ala., became the first Hawk to place in the regional tournament with a sixth-place finish in the NCAA Central Regional.

According to the NWCA, in order to be named a Scholar All-American, "A wrestler must have a 3.2 GPA and meet one of the following: 1.The wrestler must be a national qualifier this season with a .500 winning percentage; 2. The wrestler must have placed in the top six at the NCAA Regional Tournament. He must have a minimum .500 winning percentage and must have competed in at least 50 percent of his institution's total scheduled competition of NCAA sanctioned events; 3. The wrestlers must have a minimum .670 winning percentage, and must have competed in at least 50 percent of his institution's total scheduled competition of NCAA sanctioned events."
