Fontenot leads Hawks in Lower Midwest Regional

DUBUQUE, Iowa  – The Huntingdon wrestling team competed in the first day of the NCAA Division III Lower Midwest Regional on Saturday.

The sixth-year program won seven matches, scored nine points and is 16th entering Sunday. Loras College leads the 18-team field with 114.5 points. Coe College is second at 90 points and Wartburg is third at 86 points.

Kaleb Fontenot led the Hawks with two wins on Saturday and will begin Sunday in the consolation quarterfinals of the 157-pound weight division. Fontenot was 2-1 on Saturday. He won his first match by decision before losing by pin in the quarterfinals. Fontenot won by decision in the second round of consolation.

Four other Hawks won at least one match.

Quintez Pearson (149) lost by pin in the first round and won by decision in the first round of consolation. Pearson lost by major decision in the second round of consolation.

Jayson Spencer (174) lost by pin in the first round and won by major decision in the first round of consolation. Spencer lost by technical fall in the second round of consolation.

Jack Haury (197) lost his first match by technical fall before winning by decision in the first round of consolation. Haury lost by pin in the second round of consolation.

Joseph Pearson (285) lost by pin in his first match before winning by major decision. In the consolation bracket, he won by decision and lost by pin.
