Fontenot finishes eighth in Lower Midwest Regional

DUBUQUE, Iowa  – Huntingdon junior Kaleb Fontenot closed out the season with an eighth-place finish in the NCAA Division III Lower Midwest Regional on Sunday.

Fontenot is just the second Huntingdon wrestler to finish in the top-eight in a NCAA Regional. Former wrestler and current assistant coach DeAndre Beck was the first with a sixth-place finish in 2017 and a fifth-place finish in 2018.

Fontenot advanced to the quarterfinals of the 157-pound bracket on Saturday and closed the day with one win in the consolation bracket. On Sunday, Fontenot lost by technical fall in the consolation quarterfinals and closed the tournament with a loss by pin in the seventh-place match.

As a team, the sixth-year Hawks won seven matches, scored nine points and finished 16th. Loras College won the 18-team tournament with 178.5 points.
