Wrestling team splits with Allen and Averett to open season

DUE TO CURRENT COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS, FANS ARE NOT PERMITTED AT HUNTINGDON WRESTLING MATCHES

 

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Huntingdon wrestling team opened the season with a split in a pair of matches at Allen University on Sunday.

The Hawks beat NAIA Allen University 31-15 and lost to Division III Averett University 39-10.

Jack Haury (197 pounds) led the Hawks with wins in each match. Haury won by pin against Allen and won by major decision against Averett.

Huntingdon won six weight classes in the match with Allen. In addition to Haury, Loki Ryan (125) and Joseph Pearson (285) each won by pin, Michael Mort (141) and Kiefer Bangham (165) both won by major decision and Gabriel Pittman (174) won by technical fall.

Kaleb Fontenot (157) won by pin against Averett.
