Tyma and Rochelle earn West Division honors from USA South

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Two Huntingdon volleyball players were recognized with the release of the USA South All-Conference awards on Thursday.

Freshman Amy Tyma was named first-team West Division and senior Bria Rochelle was named second-team West Division. Rochelle was also named to the All-Sportsmanship Team for a third straight season.

Tyma and Rochelle helped lead the Hawks to a 19-18 record and the quarterfinals of the USA South Tournament this season. This was the first winning season for the Hawks since 2009 and the most wins in a season in more than a decade.

Tyma led the Hawks and was fifth in the conference with 313 kills. She was second on Huntingdon's team with 326 digs, third with 51 blocks and tied for third with 40 aces. Tyma had double-digit kills in 14 matches and double-digit digs in 14 matches, including a season-high 21 kills and 27 digs in a win over Brevard.

Rochelle was second on Huntingdon's team and seventh in the conference with 306 kills, led the Hawks with 356 digs, was second with 62 blocks and fourth with 34 aces. Rochelle had double-digit kills in 11 matches and double-digit digs in 16 matches. She had a season-high 17 kills against Agnes Scott and Piedmont and recorded 20 digs or more in four matches, including a season-high 21 against Berea and Agnes Scott.

Rochelle finished her four-year career with 1,051 kills, 1,136 digs, 170 blocks and 135 aces in 463 sets played. Since 2006, Rochelle ranks first for Huntingdon in sets played, second in kills, third in digs and fifth in blocks and aces.

Averett's Hannah Shields was named conference Player of the Year and Averett's Danny Miller was named Coach of the Year. Salem's Maggie Hawks earned Rookie of the Year honors and William Peace's Carson Williams was selected as the Libero of the Year.
