Hawks Fall In Season-Opener Against Pfeiffer

ATLANTA, Ga.- In their first match of their season-opening tournament hosted by Emory University, Huntingdon volleyball(0-1 overall) fell to the Pfeiffer University Falcons(1-0) three sets to none.

How it happened

Pfeiffer shot out of the gates, taking a quick 6-0 lead en route to their 25-22 first set victory, taking advantage of two early aces. Not to be outdone, the Hawks battled back to bring the score to 7-6, led by senior Izzy Valldeperas and her three aces. Nonetheless, Pfeiffer went on to earn scores on four of the next five serves, bringing their lead back to 11-7. The two teams would trade scores on the following serves, with Ashlen Janowski, Lily VanDyke, and Lindsey Holland each earning kills, but Pfeiffer was able to take advantage of their twelve kills in the set and gain the early advantage.

Building on their momentum generated in the first set, Pfeiffer was able to escape the second set with another slight victory, 25-21. Opposite of the first set, the two teams found themselves deadlocked in the early stages of the set 6-6. The Hawks continued to battle, capturing three leads of their own throughout the set, but Pfeiffer secured the set win with a late 7-2 run.

After earning 24 combined kills through the first two sets, the Hawks were only able to generate three kills, compared to 8 from the Falcons in the final set of the game, dropping the game and the set with a 25-11 final.
