MACON, Ga.- In a CCS tri-match hosted by Wesleyan College, Huntingdon volleyball(7-14 overall, 3-2 CCS) fell in their first match to the Maryville Scots(11-6 overall, 4-1 CCS), 3-0, but regrouped to take down the Wesleyan Wolves(2-8 overall, 1-5 CCS) 3-0.
Game one vs Maryville
In the first set against the Scots, the Hawks fell 25-18. Maryville came out of the gates with a poised attack offensively, earning 15 kills on the set while only committing 4 errors. Huntingdon earned the first points of the set off a kill from Ashlen Janowski, but that would be their only lead of the set, falling behind 1-0.
Maintaining their momentum generated in the first set, Maryville managed to take the second set as well, this time by a score of 25-22. In the early stages of the set, the Scots managed to earn a 10-5 lead, but back-to-back kills from Izzy Valldeperas brought the Hawks within three at 10-7. Not to be outdone, a 5-1 run from Maryville pushed their lead back to 15-8. Down 19-12 with their backs against the wall, Huntingdon opened up a 6-1 run, led by Ashlen Janowski and Lily VanDyke, to cut the deficit to 20-18, but the Scots found a renewed energy to close out the set 25-22.
To close the match, Maryville claimed the third set 25-18. Similar to the first set, the Scots claimed an early lead and never looked back, capitalizing on their 14 kills with just two errors to take the match 3-0.
Game two vs Wesleyan
Looking to bounce back from their opening match loss, Huntingdon claimed the first set against the Wolves 25-20. Through the early stages of the set, the two teams were deadlocked with a 7-7 score. A small run from Wesleyan gave the Wolves a 12-10 lead, but a kill from Ashlen Janowski sparked an 8-0 run for the Hawks, featuring kills from Aly Harris and Morgan Suggs, to give themselves an 18-12 victory they would maintain to claim set one.
Building off of their opening set momentum, the Hawks took the second set 25-14. Taking advantage of numerous errors from the Wolves, Huntingdon jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead in the set. From this point, the Hawks never saw their lead dip inside of single digits, recording 11 kills en route to a 2-0 lead.
To complete the sweep, the Hawks took the third set 25-13. Taking advantage of a match high 16 kills, Huntingdon found themselves with a 6-1 lead and never looked back. The Wolves made attempts to draw near, bringing the deficit to as close as 11-6, but led by Aly Harris and Lindsey Holland, the Hawks never faltered, claiming a 3-0 sweep over Wesleyan.
