Hawks Sweep CCS Tri-Match Featuring Covenant And Agnes Scott

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- Hosting a conference tri-match, Huntingdon volleyball(10-17 overall, 6-5 CCS) defeated the Covenant College Scots(12-12 overall, 6-4 CCS) in five sets to open their day before sweeping the Agnes Scott Scotties(3-15 overall, 1-10 CCS) three sets to zero.

Game one vs Covenant

In the first of what would be a five-set match, the Hawks defeated the Scots 25-20. Taking advantage of kills from Lindsey Holland and Ashlen Janowski, Huntingdon saw an early 3-0 lead. Covenant battled back to bring the score to 3-3, but a second run from the Hawks, capitalized by an Izzy Valldeperas kill, put the Hawks back ahead 6-3. Facing a 16-10 deficit, the Scots managed to bring the score within one at 18-17, but a final 7-3 push from Huntingdon led by Janowski and Holland gave the Hawks the set win and a 1-0 advantage.

Bouncing back from their opening set loss, Covenant claimed the second set 25-11. Utilizing an efficient offensive attack, the Scots earned 9 kills while committing just three errors en route to the resounding set victory.

Building off their second set momentum, the Scots also claimed the third set, this time by a score of 25-22. Recording a match high 15 kills, Covenant grabbed an early led and managed to hold on, holding off the Hawks aggressive attack that saw 11 kills of their own.

Huntingdon managed to stay alive with a 25-17 fourth set victory. Making the most of five errors from the Scots, kills from Janowski and Aly Harris forced a fifth set. As the fifth set got underway, the Hawks found a new life, taking an 11-2 lead. The Scots opened up a 11-3 run of their own to make the score 14-13 going down to the wire, but another kill from Janowski put Covenant away and gave Huntingdon the victory.

Game two vs Agnes Scott

Building off the momentum of their win vs Covenant, the Hawks generated 35 kills while limiting Agnes Scott to just 21 en route to a 3-0 victory. With wins of 25-12 and 25-13 in the first two sets, the Hawks were in firm control going into the third set.

As the third set got underway, the Scotties proved they weren't done battling. They claimed an early 4-1 lead before the Hawks scored three straight of their own to tie the score. Agnes Scott still held on to a 19-15 lead before Lily VanDyke sent one over the net to spark a 11-6 run to give Huntingdon the conference sweep.

The Hawks return to action on October 25th, traveling to Maryville for a tri-match with the Scots and Wesleyan. Games are scheduled for 3:00 and 5:00 PM CT.
