Hawks Volleyball Sweeps Belhaven
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Looking to avenge their loss from the first matchup this season with the Blazers, Huntingdon volleyball(12-18 overall, 8-6 CCS) played a complete game to sweep Belhaven(11-14 overall, 9-5 CCS) three sets to zero.
The Hawks set the tone for the match early with a 25-16 opening set victory. The Blazers claimed the opening point, but an 8-0 run from Huntingdon capped off by a kill from Morgan Suggs gave Huntingdon an advantage they wouldn't give up throughout the rest of the set. Taking advantage of 7 Belhaven errors while recording 12 kills of their own, consecutive kills from Suggs gave Huntingdon the 1-0 lead.
Keeping their momentum, Huntingdon also claimed the second set 25-20. Similar to the first set, Belhaven put up the first two points of the set before a Lindsey Holland kill sparked a 7-0 run for the Hawks. Once in control, the Hawks never lost their lead, with a kill from Lily VanDyke putting Huntingdon ahead 2-0 in a position to sweep the Blazers.
To complete the sweep, the Hawks took the third set 25-17. The two teams kicked off the set in a tight battle, with a kill from Izzy Valldeperas evening the score at 5. Belhaven would score the following point to take a 6-5 lead, but a six point swing in favor of the Hawks, driven by Blazer errors, would put Huntingdon ahead 11-6. The Blazers continued to draw near, bringing the score to as close as 12-11 and 16-13, but the Hawks were relentless, with Lindsey Holland sending one over the net to complete the sweep for Huntingdon over their CCS foe.
