McClure and Curtis compete in Falcon Classic

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Runners Brianna McClure and Kristen Curtis represented Huntingdon on Saturday in the 2012 Falcon Classic at the University of Montevallo.

McClure turned in a time of 30:24 in the 6K race and Curtis finished with a time of 33:55. Full results for the meet were not posted as of Saturday night.

Huntingdon cross country coach Ben Raphelson said McClure has shown steady progress since the first meet of the season on Sept. 1. Saturday's 6K race was almost twice as long as the two-mile race to start the season.

"Brianna ran very well," Raphelson said. "At the two-mile mark today, she was 30 seconds faster than she was three weeks ago and she continued to run well for the remainder of the race. She has come a long way with her training and she has the potential to continue to improve."

For Curtis, in her first year of cross country competition, this was her longest race yet. Raphelson said it was a learning experience.

"This was Kristen's first 6K and she is anxious to run again," Raphelson said. "She knows she is capable of more and she wants to get back after it."

Huntingdon returns to action on Oct. 5 in the JSU Foothills Meet.
