Huntingdon joins USA South Athletic Conference

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Huntingdon College President J. Cameron West announced today that Huntingdon will join the NCAA-Division III USA South Athletic Conference beginning in the fall of 2013. Huntingdon and Covenant College (Ga.) were approved as members at a meeting of the USA South presidents yesterday. Current USA South members are Averett University (Va.), Ferrum College (Va.), Greensboro College (N.C.), Mary Baldwin College (Va.), Meredith College (N.C.), Methodist University (N.C.), N.C. Wesleyan College (N.C.), William Peace University (N.C.), and the conference's newest members, LaGrange College (Ga.), Piedmont College (Ga.), and Maryville College (Tenn.).

Huntingdon men’s basketball falls in GSAC semis

LaGRANGE, Ga. – LaGrange pulled away in the second half to end the Huntingdon men’s season on Friday. The Hawks battled with LaGrange for more than a half, but the Panthers took a 76-67 win in the Great South Athletic Conference tournament semifinals.

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Huntingdon men’s basketball team started strong but couldn’t get by Pensacola Christian on Tuesday night. The Hawks led by four at the half but fell 88-76 in the final game of the regular season.
Huntingdon men’s basketball falls in overtime

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's basketball team missed a free throw at the end of regulation and couldn't get the final shot to fall in overtime as Piedmont escaped with an 89-87 win on Saturday. The Hawks (7-17, 3-5 Great South Athletic Conference) have lost three straight games by three points or less. This was the seventh loss by five points or less this season.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men’s basketball team rallied from a 10-point deficit in the second half but came up a point short against LaGrange on Wednesday. LaGrange blocked a Huntingdon shot with two seconds left to pull out a 66-65 win at Roland Arena.

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Huntingdon men held Covenant to 18 points in the second half and pulled out a 58-51 win on Wednesday night. The Hawks trailed 33-28 at the half but outscored Covenant 30-18 in the final 20 minutes.

ROME, Ga. – Courtnee Edgar sank two free throws with nine seconds to play to pull Huntingdon within two points of Berry College on Tuesday. But that was as close as the Hawks could get. Berry’s Jonathan Adams sank 1-of-2 free throws with seven seconds remaining and the Hawks missed a 3-point attempt with two seconds left as the Vikings held on for an 83-80 win.

DECATUR,Ga.- Heading into the final month before the conference tournament, Lindsay Haggerty of Wesleyan and Jeremiah Thomas of Huntingdon claim this week's Great South Athletic Conference player of the week honors after putting up solid stats for their squads in the last seven days of play. This marks the first time either athlete has been given the award this season.

Trailing by one with less than 30 seconds to play, the Hawks were in position to take the last shot and win the game. Instead, Huntingdon missed three shots under the basket in the final seconds and Rust College hung on to win 83-80.

The Hawks built a double-digit lead twice, only to watch the Scots chip away and get back in the game. Huntingdon’s final push made the difference as the Hawks came away with a 79-65 win.
