Hawks Fall To Southern Virginia On Senior Day, Finish As The 7th Seed Heading To USA South Tournament

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- To conclude their regular season, Huntingdon women's lacrosse(2-11 overall, 2-7 USA South) was taken down by the Southern Virginia University Knights(8-7 overall, 6-3 USA South) 22-3.

Prior to the game, the Hawks recognized their four seniors for the continuous dedication to the lacrosse program, both on and off the field. The 2024 women's lacrosse senior class consists of:

Highlights

The Knights started the game off with a 2-0 run through the first five minutes. A goal from Colby Jones at the 9:24 mark off an assist from Kate Hudson brought the score to 2-1, but two more Southern Virginia scores brought the quarter to a close with the Hawks trailing 4-1. In the second quarter, the Knights went on an offensive tear, outscoring Huntingdon 10-0 to enter halftime with a 14-1 lead. This explosion carried over into the third period, where they were able to add on five more goals while holding the Hawks scoreless to bring the score to 19-1 going into the fourth quarter. At the 7:14 mark, Kate Hudson was able to score her first goal of the afternoon, which Reagan Barrett followed with one of her own, but the Hawks would ultimately still fall 22-3.

 

With this loss, the Hawks entered a three-way tiebreaker with William Peace and Greensboro in the USA South standings. Ultimately, the Hawks came out on top of the tiebreaker, earning the seventh seed in the USA South tournament. They will travel to take on the #2 seeded Meredith Avenging Angels on April 30th.
