
Hawks Comeback Falls Short At Greensboro
GREENSBORO, NC.- Bringing their four-game road trip to a close, Huntingdon Women's Lacrosse made a final stop at Greensboro College for a conference contest against the Pride.
After falling behind 14-8 entering the final quarter, the Hawks mustered a strong comeback effort featuring six goals, but ultimately fell short, taking the 16-14 loss.
How it happened
After letting up the first goal of the game, three consecutive goals from Kate Hudson, Reagan Barrett, and Payton Hill gave Huntingdon a 3-1 lead by the 8:31 mark. Greensboro responded with back-to-back unanswered goals of their own to even things back at 3-3 with 3:45 remaining in the quarter. Hudson put in her second goal of the game at the 2:54 mark to put the Hawks back in front 4-3, but the Pride quickly matched to even things at 4 entering the second quarter.
The two teams continued to trade blows as the second quarter got underway, but goals from Barrett, Hudson, and Khrystal Graham were enough to maintain Huntingdon's lead 7-6 by the 9:31 mark. Two Greensboro goals handed the Pride their first lead since the first quarter at the 7:56 mark, 8-7, but Barrett cashed in yet again to tie things shortly after. Greensboro closed the quarter with three unanswered goals to take an 11-8 lead into the halftime break.
The third quarter was dictated by Greensboro on both ends of the field, as the Pride outscored the Hawks 3-0 through the 15 minutes to kick off the fourth quarter with a 14-8 lead.
As play got underway in the fourth quarter, Reagan Barrett caught fire, scoring three goals in the first five minutes of the period. Nonetheless, the Hawks still trailed 15-11. Greensboro's lead grew to 16-11 by the 10 minute mark, but Huntingdon continued to battle, with Kate Hudson's goal sparking a 3-0 scoring run as the game drew near. With just 44 seconds remaining following Hudson's final goal, the Hawks ran out of time to complete their comeback, falling 16-14.
