
Hawks Late Push Comes Up Short Against Brevard
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Taking to Charles Lee Field for the last time in the 2025 regular season, Huntingdon Women's Lacrosse looked to pick up a key conference victory against Brevard College.
Ultimately, the Hawks were taken down by the Tornadoes in a 14-11 offensive-shootout after mustering a valiant comeback effort.
How it happened
Through the five and a half minutes of the game, neither team could generate any substantial offensive momentum, as the two squads remained in a 0-0 tie. To close the quarter however, the Tornadoes went on an offensive tear, scoring five runs in the last 9 minutes of the quarter to take a 5-0 lead into the next period.
Kate Hudson put the Hawks on the board at the 14:06 mark with an unassisted goal, cutting the deficit to 5-1. Back-to-back goals for Brevard in response extended their lead back to six goals, 7-1 with seven and a half minutes remaining until halftime, but the Hawks continued to battle, as Reagan Barrett and Taff Bradley each put shots past the Tornado keeper in the final minute, cutting the halftime deficit to 7-3.
As the second half got underway, Kate Hudson put on an offensive display, matching Brevard goal-for-goal through the opening seven minutes. Nonetheless, Huntingdon still trailed 9-5 as the third quarter continued to play out. The Tornadoes tacked on another at the 6:17 mark to extend their lead to 10-5, but Colby Jones responded with a goal of her own in the final minute off an assist from Reagan Barrett as the Hawks entered the fourth quarter facing a 10-6 deficit.
Brevard opened up the fourth quarter with a goal in the first thirty seconds, but in response, the Hawks caught fire offensively, as Hudson and Reagan Barrett combined to score four unanswered goals across the next four minutes, bringing the deficit to just one goal, 11-10 with 9:15 to go. Brevard momentarily stopped the bleeding with a goal at the 7:34 mark, but Huntingdon continued to pour it on, as Colby Jones cashed in off another assist from Barrett to bring the score to 12-11 with six minutes to go. In the final moments however, Brevard managed to cash in on two more shots, holding the Hawks scoreless as Huntingdon fell, 14-11.
In the goal
Angelina Tran played all 60 minutes in the goal for Huntingdon, recording seven saves on twenty-one shots while recording 1 ground ball.
The Hawks close out their regular season on April 19th, hitting the road to face Southern Virginia University. Gametime is set for 10:00 AM CT.
