Huntingdon joins USA South Athletic Conference

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Huntingdon College President J. Cameron West announced today that Huntingdon will join the NCAA-Division III USA South Athletic Conference beginning in the fall of 2013. Huntingdon and Covenant College (Ga.) were approved as members at a meeting of the USA South presidents yesterday. Current USA South members are Averett University (Va.), Ferrum College (Va.), Greensboro College (N.C.), Mary Baldwin College (Va.), Meredith College (N.C.), Methodist University (N.C.), N.C. Wesleyan College (N.C.), William Peace University (N.C.), and the conference's newest members, LaGrange College (Ga.), Piedmont College (Ga.), and Maryville College (Tenn.).

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon College volleyball program has a new coach. But she is no stranger to the Huntingdon program. Former Huntingdon volleyball player and longtime St. James School coach Amy Patterson has been hired to lead the Hawks. Huntingdon College athletic director Buzz Phillips officially announced the hiring on Wednesday.

DECATUR, Ga. – The Great South Athletic Conference recently recognized 20 Huntingdon student-athletes in four sports with the release of the GSAC All-Academic teams. The student-athletes from volleyball, men's and women's soccer and women's cross country excelled in the classroom while representing the Hawks in competition this fall.

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Huntingdon volleyball team picked up a win in its first match on Friday, but top-seeded Maryville was too much to overcome in the Great South Athletic Conference semifinals. Maryville ended Huntingdon’s season 25-12, 25-15, 25-12. The Hawks end the season at 11-25. Maryville (25-7) advances to the GSAC championship on Saturday at noon.

DECATUR, Ga. – Huntingdon seniors Alyssa Eason and Abby Carter were among those honored with the announcement of the Great South Athletic Conference's volleyball awards on Thursday. The two volleyball players were each named All-Conference and will receive their awards this weekend at the GSAC tournament at Piedmont College. This is the second straight year Eason and Carter have been named All-Conference.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Huntingdon volleyball team ended the regular season with two losses on Sunday in the Rhodes Halloween tournament. The Hawks lost to Hardin Simmons 25-11, 25-11, 25-12 and fell to Rhodes 25-14, 25-21, 25-20.

ATLANTA – The Huntingdon volleyball team fell to Oglethorpe in three games on Tuesday. Abby Carter had five kills and Alyssa Eason had 14 assists but the Hawks lost 25-19, 25-14, 25-20.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Huntingdon volleyball team picked up two Great South Athletic Conference victories on Saturday. Behind Abby Carter's 17 kills and Alyssa Eason's 43 assists, the Hawks knocked off Wesleyan 25-8, 25-5, 25-10 and Salem 17-25, 26-24, 25-16, 25-23.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Saturday marked the final home matches for three Huntingdon seniors. Abby Carter, Alyssa Eason and Ashlee Walters were recognized on Senior Day before the Hawks took on LaGrange and Covenant in a Great South Athletic Conference tri-match. LaGrange downed Huntingdon 25-22, 25-16, 23-25, 25-21 and Covenant beat the Hawks 25-17, 25-13, 25-17.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon volleyball team battled Stillman for five games but came up a little short Thursday night at Roland Arena. In the third meeting between the two teams this season, Stillman won 18-25, 25-21, 26-24, 15-25, 15-12. Huntingdon won the first two meetings this season in three games and four games.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon volleyball team couldn’t find an answer for unbeaten and 21st-ranked Spring Hill College on Thursday night at Roland Arena. The Badgers downed the Hawks 25-14, 25-11, 25-3. The NAIA team improved to 23-0 with the victory.
